Worst-case scenario, I go down a Wirecutter-style elimination buying process myself, like my current “what’s the best frozen burrito” adventure (but we all know that frozen lasagnas are really the best emergency freezer meals-and Trader Joe’s Family Style Meat Lasagna is the absolute best). If Wirecutter doesn’t have a guide for something I want to buy, I go down the rabbit hole that is our internal work chat, trying to extract the advice of my knowledgeable co-workers. If I can help it, I try to buy wisely from the get-go. You could say I’ve always been interested in well-designed things that are meant to last a lifetime, or (at the very least) smartly designed things that work as they’re intended to. Before Wirecutter, I was working toward becoming a licensed architect in Los Angeles. After working as an associate managing editor at Wirecutter for about four years, my appreciation of our mission to help people buy less junk has only increased.
